Our well-traveled clients wanted to bring a piece of the Mediterranean home with them. The combination of white stucco arches, clay roof tiles, and wood and metal accents bring a Mediterranean feel to this Ocean Beach custom home. The design allows the homeowners to enjoy the warm San Diego weather incorporating large La Cantina sliding door systems and large windows to allow plenty of natural light to filter into the space as well as the option to open the large doorways to allow the ocean breeze indoors. This home was designed for entertaining by incorporating large balconies, patios and a rooftop deck for guests to mingle and enjoy the ocean view.
Mediterranean design details were carried throughout the home through the use of soft edges, curves and plenty of stained wood. The front door sets the Mediterranean tone for the home upon entry with its rich, dark stain and arch framed opening. Arches are continued on the fireplace wall with a sculpted, curved chimney detail and flanking arched bookcase alcoves. Finally, a colorful and decorative tile detail was incorporated into the fireplace facing to bring a fun and casual feel to the living space.
The client’s main desire was to have a home that catered to entertaining. The open floor plan and variety of seating areas allow guests to mingle throughout the home. The use of colorful hand-painted tiles throughout the kitchen and great room creates a cheerful and welcoming environment, while also tying into the Mediterranean design of the home. Columns and detailed archways frame the kitchen while maintaining an open feel. Dynamic stained beams were designed into the dining room ceiling to bring warmth and character to the great room as well as to distinguish the dining area.
