The Different Kinds of Home Additions

Home additions come in different sizes, styles and types. Depending on your needs and budget, they can be small and minimalistic, or large and extravagant. Marrokal Design & Remodeling, the home remodeling expert, discusses three of the most popular additions to help you.

Sunroom

Traditionally, sunrooms were known as drafty structures that were either too hot or too cold to fully enjoy. Their thin glass and aluminum construction also made them unappealing to homeowners. Fortunately, they have evolved into energy-efficient and appealing living spaces. Sunrooms now come with thermal-resistant glass and a structurally sound aluminum frame, making them the ideal room for cozy family get-togethers.

Room Addition

Room additions are arguably the most popular way to increase your home’s square footage. This can be anything from a dining room to a family room or even an extra bathroom. While they are an effective and attractive way of expanding your home, room additions can also be quite costly. Their size means that they need more materials and labor to be accomplished.

Bump Out

Lack the funds for a full-on room addition? Consider investing in a bump out instead. This addition can add an extra 50 feet to your kitchen or bathroom, which should be just enough to squeeze in a kitchen island or turn a powder room into a second bathroom. While it may seem too small compared with the other two additions, with smart storage solutions and a new floor plan, your room can look significantly bigger.
