Uncommon Considerations for Your Bathroom Remodel

Remodeling your bathroom can go a long way towards making your home a much more enjoyable and valuable space. To ensure its success, we recommend considering both aesthetic appeal and functionality during planning. Aside from that, however, there are other less obvious things that you need to factor in during decision-making. Marrokal Design & Remodeling, the home remodeling expert, shares some of them today:

The Threshold

Curbless showers are a great feature for modern bathrooms. Since they have no threshold, however, you have a higher risk of water pooling on your floor. To ensure that water flows to the drain, your floor should be high enough to angle the tile towards it. Meanwhile, when increasing your floor’s thickness, it’s important to think about the entry into the room. It will be difficult for people who need to be wheeled into the room to enter if it’s higher than the rest of the home, so accommodations need to be made.

The Plumbing

During their bathroom remodel, most homeowners usually think about the different fixtures that are connected to the plumbing, electrical, and framing. Where will they be installed? How far should they be from each other? While this can help you avoid any mistakes and create tighter work, it’s not the only design feature you need to think of. You also need to ask yourself where the plumbing supply lines will be. Would you prefer to have them exposed? This can be great for bathrooms with an industrial or vintage theme. If you want a minimalist and modern look, on the other hand, you can choose to hide them behind your sink pedestal.

The Height

Vanities are usually 30 inches high, especially in older bathrooms. While this is an excellent height for smaller children, it can be quite uncomfortable for most adults. That said, the standard height of 36 inches can also be too high. Instead, why not try a floating vanity? This can be placed at any height you like, just make sure that the wall has enough support to allow the vanity to hang easily without coming loose.
