The Best Ways To Reduce Dust During A Remodel

Best Ways Reduce Dust Remodel

Remodeling a home doesn’t come without some complications like dust. That’s why minimizing it is a big concern both to the homeowner and Marrokal Design & Remodeling.

If that isn’t done, it can make the remodeling process painful.

It’s obvious that knocking down walls and removing tile and paint will cause dust and that doesn’t settle well with homeowners.

One study found that 85 percent of homeowners surveyed said that dust was the most serious inconvenience during their remodeling project.

A home that’s being remodeled can have five to eight times more particles floating in the air than a home that’s not under construction.

Marrokal Design & Remodeling Project Manager, John Simko, says there’s a solution.

“I put a BuildClean fan right in the middle of the floor and it reduces the dust and particulates in the air. The dust that would ordinarily get into the house is significantly cut down.”

Simko says before the company started using the Build Clean Dust Control System, they had to rely on opening windows and turning on regular house fans to mitigate dust.

“The filtration fan takes the bad stuff out of the air and puts clean air back into the room; it’s just exchanging the dusty air for clean, pure air. It can be really helpful for homeowners and people who have allergies,” says Simko.

The Build Clean Dust Control system touts that it eliminates up to 90 percent of airborne dust, making the environment more “livable” during a remodel.

“We leave a job dust-free and clean, but the beauty of this product, for us, is that most of our clients live in their home when we’re remodeling it and it makes the home more comfortable and safe to live in while we’re doing the remodel,” – says Simko.

The fan has a 360-degree design to allow it to pick up dust and particles from all angles, maximizing the particle collection.

A few additional steps to mitigate dust can add even more protection and are especially necessary if you’re living in your home during construction.

Have the remodeling area taped off. Creating a barrier to contain the dust to the rooms that are being remodeled can greatly reduce dust.

Tape HVAC systems with plastic. Taping off the heating ventilation and air conditioning systems can further help to ensure that construction dust doesn’t travel through the system. If a return vent is in a room where remodeling is being done, the HVAC will need to be shutoff or not taped with plastic because it can damage the system to run it while the vent is blocked.

Sticky mats and power tools. Remodelers can place special mats that are designed to collect dust from workers’ boots in areas where they’re frequently passing. Also, power tools that collect up to 90 percent of dust can be used during demolition. However, power tools are only used about 20 percent of the time during demolition.

Marrokal Design & Remodeling uses a combination of the BuildClean fans and extra measures to protect your home to ensure that it’s livable even during the biggest remodels.

The end result is a dream remodel that isn’t a nightmare to live through.
